The undefeated streak of Liam's soccer team (I call 'em "The Preditors") has ended 0-3. Our boys played tirelessly in the pouring rain. Sorry to say this, but I missed it because I had to stay home with Emma who had diareah (yuck!). I feel sad for them, but they'll keep working. I love those boys!!!
Somewhere in the game (half-time?), Jamie and David gave the boys chocolate bars. Very unlike Jamie and David, I'm not sure why they did it. Maybe sitting facing 12 little boys sitting on a metal bench in the rain and gathering darkness had something to do with it, but Jamie says David had brought them to the game. But, they were given out before the first game was scored, so it wasn't pity-chocolate.
I wouldn't want the kids expecting chocolate in the afternoon or donuts in the morning. That doesn't mean I would not enjoy a game-morning donut, with coffee. When the kids were six or seven, we ordered pizza to be brought to the field at halftime. I liked those nights because I didn't have to go home and start cooking at 7pm, but I also enjoyed sitting in the grass with the other families, talking. People can make jokes about soccer Moms, but it's often through our kids and their activities that families meet and have other adults to talk to.
Here's something I couldn't have guessed at before I had kids; how much I can love other people's children. How proud you can be of them, how much you can cheer for them.
